The Regions
Wales
Stay in ancient Manor houses and unique hotels; visit incredible parks and gardens; and discover the varied beauty of the countryside. Although quite small in size, the variety of the region is quite amazing. Highlights include Cardiff, the capital plus Snowdonia with its incredible mountain ranges and rugged landscaping. The heartland of Wales is a collection of quiet seaside and country villages, market towns and farmhouses. Lancashire The Peak District And Derbyshire Wye Valley are ideal for those who enjoy walking and hiking. The Peak District is one of the country's finest national parks. Here you may visit the stately manors of the past such as Haddon Hall and Chatsword House - touring the area on narrow country roads. Chatsworth house is surrounded by an incredible park which used to be the family seat of the dukes of Devonshire. Haddon Hall is considered the "ideal of the English country house," a medieval manor along the banks of the River Wye. Yorkshire - Known as Emily Brontee's Country. The largest region of England with rugged landscapes, the Yorkshire Moors and quiet villages. Ruined abbeys rise above the landscapes while the lush Yorkshire Dales are crossed by waterfalls, rivers and streams. Visit Haworth, in the heart of Bronte Country and Bolton Priory, which is surrounded by some of the finest scenery of the area. York has a fascinating city center with narrow streets and alleys with a varied selection of museums and activities. York Minster is the largest Gothic Church in England and is a sight to behold. Cornwall, Devon and Somerset From the tip of Land's End to the heath-covered moorlands of Dover to lush river valleys and spectacular coastlines. This is one of the finest regions to visit outside London, and for centuries has been featured in British literature. King Arthur's legend is tied to the West Country. Devon is famous for its striking moorlands, and its coastal beauty has been praised throughout the ages. The coast of Cornwall also enjoys some spectacular views. St. Michael's Mount (off of the coast of Mount's Bay) complete with 14th century castles, rises on a huge granite island, and is just one of the many magnificent places you can visit on your own. The Lake District Best described as one large park; this is Wordsworth country. Places like Windermere, Kendal and Grasmere are an open invitation to endless walks - stopping in market towns, boat trips across the lakes, and visiting the places associated with the great poet. We recommend you visit the District during the Summer for the best weather, although September and October are much less crowded. The Southern Lakes are by far the most popular, with Windermere and Kendal being the top-rated destinations. |
